Heritage

It is the wines of Buzet and Duras, Armagnac, foie gras, duck, mushrooms, colourful vegetables and of course, the famous Agen prune, the emblematic fruit which transports the town's name far beyond our borders, that colour and perfume the markets of Agen.

At the heart of the south west, beneath a generously sunny climate, they give life to the "well being and good living". The Perla de mèjgor (Pearl of the Midi) as it was described by the Agenais poet Jasmin, the town acts as a rallying point for discovering the valleys, fortified towns and castles of the Lot & Garonne that can be found by following the river or the canal.




Agen is committed to preserving its exceptional architectural heritage, a subtle mixture of Agenais history which is at once humble and prestigious, visible and hidden, within the architecture of its monuments and in the general layout of the town.




From the Canal Bridge to the Gravier, from the Town Hall to the Prefecture, by following the heritage path we can stroll among the lattice of lanes in the old quarters, amble along the banks of the canal and survey the boulevards where the city is reinvented with each step…
